PLAY Mobile Library was founded in 2017 by Lauria Sun with the help from other PLAY and community members. The aim of the library is to foster interest in both English and Chinese literature and culture for young children. The library operates once a month year-round at a local Chinese school during the school year and in a family garage during the summer period. For the past 4 years, more than 700 books have been circulated among young readers in over 2000 checkouts total. The mobile library project also provides numerous volunteering opportunities to local teens. Recently, with the expansion of its operating team, the library has reached its new goal of opening twice per month in two different cities, San Ramon and Pleasanton, hence facilitating even more reading opportunities for tri-valley children.

HONORED MEMBERS
Ian Kreider (former director) was a junior at Dougherty Valley High School. As a young child, Ian loved being read to by his father, and today, in his free time, he enjoys reading. He believes the local library does not contain enough resources for Chinese readers (especially young readers), and aims to remedy that by joining the PLAY mobile library group. Because he takes Chinese as a second language, he understands the importance of learning to speak and read multiple languages early in life. He tries to help children by leading Play Mobile Library to promote a love of reading, as well as supporting kids to learn Chinese. Ian is an active Boy Scout, and often volunteers to give back to the community.
Lauria Sun (Founder) was a senior at Dougherty Valley High School. She has a passion for literature and enjoys reading as one of her favorite pastimes. During her time as a student for the local Chinese School, she realized the scarcity of resources for children hoping to improve their literacy in Chinese. She decided to take action to create a platform that fosters a more comprehensive education in Chinese language and culture. Therefore, she started the PLAY Mobile Library project in 2017. Lauria had also volunteered 3 summers in a row for the Contra Costa County library, where she helped facilitate the summer reading program.

Yanzhe Feng (former director) was a junior at Dougherty Valley High School. Yanzhe grew up in China and learned Chinese as his primary language. He wishes to use his Chinese skills to help others through Play Mobile Library, not only to provide and organize Chinese books for others, but also help others experience and increase their proficiency with the Chinese language.
Yinuo Tang (Previous Director) was a sophomore at Amador Valley High School and was a co-leader of Play’s library subgroup. Chinese was her first language, and she grew up reading many Chinese books. She had always been interested in languages, and she shared her enthusiasm for languages to young children so they could learn new things and see things in a new way. Through the library, she shared her experience in learning Mandarin with other children who did not have the books she had back then as a kid. In addition to this, Yinuo also enjoys music and plays many instruments including the violin, electric guitar, and the ukulele. She also likes to sing and draw in her free time.
