PLAY GARDENING

Schedule

Every third Saturday of each month at Fertile GroundWorks, 4743 East Ave, Livermore, CA 94550.

purpose

This gardening group helps PLAY members and other youths in our community to be familiarized with gardening through hands-on projects that will help them with skills and knowledge of growing indoor or backyard plants.

The subgroup is meant to be a stress-free and long-term project that helps our PLAY members and other youths in our community become more active and spend more time outdoors, especially during this pandemic. Members of this gardening club will have chances of giving lectures periodically as they learn how to grow nutritious food, both organically and sustainably. There will also be plenty of volunteering opportunities at local community gardens to help feed those in need.

past eventS

May 21, 2022 - Participants could choose either to prepare a bed, make tags, or to pot newly grown seedlings. Everyone worked hard, big thanks to everyone who participated and persevered through the hot weather.

Apr 16, 2022 - Members harvested radish, and later filled 6-packs with soil and planted seeds of many varieties, including tomatoes, squash, eggplants, and beans. 12 types of seeds sorted in 12 trays were produced. We completed a task that would've taken a day within an hour with the help of everyone.

Dec 18, 2021 - Volunteers worked on removing weeds and clearing out the garden bed. We loosened the dirt with pitchforks and spread fertilizer on top for parsley growing.
